Punk Rock...

From the age of 16 to 22 I was quite enamored with the punk rock mentality. Not punk rock, which generally is terrible music, but the mentality of punk which is to me best defined as:
*Non-conformist
*Anti-establishment
*Righteous anger towards and dissatisfaction with the status quo

What's not to love about someone who lives with that mentality, right? (Well a lot if it's not backed up by education and reasoning, but if it is then it's a person to really get behind.)

Well during this stage of my life I decided to disown the United States, and called it "disallegiance". I even rewrote the Pledge of Allegiance in my poetry book. Next to it I have a picture of the U.S. flag pasted upside down with an X drawn through it. That is so punk rock, right?

Written on 6 April 2002:

I Pledge Disallegiance (Death to Democracy) by A.D.

I Pledge disallegiance to the flag
Of the UnUnited State of America
And to the dysfunctional public
For which it stands.
One nation above and without God, very divided
With suffering and injustice for all.

Say what you will about it, but I think it rocks and is very true if we truthfully examine the country we live in. Not the one we want to live in, or philosophically/theologically/metaphysically believe should exist.

Plus this country is not my home. I owe nothing to it besides taxes. Nothing. NOTHING.
