I was returning some comedy DVD's to my brother Brian tonight, and ended up having to stay a bit because my car was overheating.
So I was checking all my fluids and stuff, and there was this high school aged boy playing with three younger boys outside of their townhome. They were playing a game I will call "Thugs & Chumps". The younger boys were "Chumps" and the older boy was a "Thug". He was saying to them Where's my money?, while pinning them against a car or dangling them upside down by their ankles. They would giggle and make up places where the money was like In the tree. or In my other jacket. or I don't have it right now, let me go get it. Then the older boy would retort in a faux New York Italian gangster accent If you don't have my money, I'm gonna schmack you.
To be honest it was a little unsettling to hear kids playing like that. My immediate thought was did these kids witness this happening to their parents or family? Then I realized how ignorantly racist that was to think of such a thing. I never witnessed "Cowboys and Indians" or ever saw any "Superheroes & Supervillains", but played those games when I was little. Hopefully, if God is merciful, those boys had never seen any relatives or friends shaken down for money by a pimp, drug dealer, or crime boss. Hopefully, they had just seen Scarface, Dolemite, The Godfather, or played Grand Theft Auto to often.
And I have to admit, it was kinda funny, especially the faux Italian accent.
