Your Ghost...

If Chris Martin had a son who grew up on Pedro the Lion and David Bazan's songs, and then when he grew up he wanted to sing melodic songs like his father, but sing in a voice that sounds like his musical hero it would sound like Greg Laswell.

Greg Laswell loves to sing sad songs according to his website. Because of a breakup. Ain't that always the way...

Well I was catching up on my shows (I know that is so American and feminine to say, but I "follow" a lot of shows now that I am attached to a woman who does). At the end of Grey's Anatomy, a song from his "Covers" EP came on the show because Izzie left Karev and he was uber-sad. It is a cover of a Kristen Hersh song.

It's a song about a girl that's haunted by the memories of a past love, that may be literally dead or just metaphorically dead. You can decide. The line from the chorus, "I think last night, you were driving circles around me." is just so haunting. The other awesome line that kicks you in the pants is "It's the blaze across your night gown. It's the phone's ring." in the bridge. The emotion with which its delivered almost sends chills up your spine.

Thank goodness for Dawson's Creek, otherwise we wouldn't have so much music interlaced into our TV shows. Amen.

p.s.- He also has a cover of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" on his MySpace that exposes the truth in the lyrical content contrary to the happy upbeat production of the song. Have you ever noticed that tons of 80s songs are lyrically sad and musically happy?
Gets you everytime time, eh?

Finally someone else is thanking God for Dawson's Creek.

Also, check out Greg Laswell's record Three Flights from Alto Nido. It's one of my faves of the year.

Love.
