Will K.C. be a new hip-hop hot spot?

I don't know what I would do if that happened.
... I'd kinda love it though I think.

This summer there have been two "summer jams" playing occasionally on Hot 103.3 JAMZ. When I first heard them, I thought: WHAT?!?!?...followed by laughter that a rapper was singing about silly old Kansas City. However the more I hear/heard them, the more I thought they needed to be shared. Plus most of my friends share KC roots, and a fraction of them loved hip-hop for a brief moment in life.

So listen if you want.

First:
B Double E - "KC, Say Yeah"
*As you may guess from the quality of his hip-hop moniker, this rapper is a local yokel. This is a party anthem about girls, money, and the KC Metro area.

Best for Last:
KC's closest thing to an Eminem or Lil' Wayne: Tech N9ne has a new lighter album, so says the internet. Apparently his previous effort was too dark, so this new album is about rejoicing according to Tech. His new single is called "O.G.", an ode to the Gates Barbeque entrepreneur Ollie Gates. So needless to say, the chorus is hilarious.

So the song is cool, but what sells this song for me is the music video, particularly the segments that take place in a Gates Barbecue restaurant. All the rest is typical hip-hop video fare: baggy clothes, frantic body movements, and pimped-out cars that make you say "DWAM".

First verse, he walks into Gates and is playing the various roles of Gates employees ala Eddie Murphy, and his attitude of the frontline workers (people that work behind the counter, not in the grill area for those of you who may not know what "frontline" means...ah McDonald's) is just hilarious. The cashier gives this "Man, this is so wack" face right before the onset of the second chorus that reminds me of my brother Brian.

The second verse segment of the video is some very original computer animation utilizing a tray. I interpret the concept as being that the Gates bbq is so "fire" that he starts to hallucinate and see things and then one of his crew have to bring him back to reality.

The third verse part is pretty typical of hip-hop videos, but the one funny part to me (being a guy that likes to make fun of everything he runs across in life) is that this huge hip-hop guy is playing a Peter Frampton-blow microphone electronic keyboard. Hilarious looking.

Um, if you need an extra laugh or to just kill time or to sit around a computer with friends or music studio buddies and make fun of something, watch the "Tech going mainstream" video, it has this girl ranting about the video, and apparently it was so unpopular she made a "re:" video to defend herself. Her voice is so monotone, it makes me take notice.

Just in case this post did not sale you on the music video, here is my favorite line of the chorus:

"I'm hella fine like the food at Ollie Gates

Strawberry baked bean mixed plate"

I do not even know what a "strawberry baked bean" is, but I really wanna find out. Who is with me?
postscript:
Tech N9ne even has a diss against another more high class barbecue establishment in the KC area: "Fiorella's might cost quite a bit / yeah we do it / but the fire ain't brought like this."
